Nalanthaanaa…….?

According to himself, he was the one who introduced the “all-wood” Nagaswaram as originally the Nagaswaram’s wider end was fully made of metal. It is also observed that his Nagaswaram is visibly longer than the usual types. This length, he reasoned, was necessary if there was a need to render musical syllables powerfully and correctly. He is also the first artist to have used the tambura sruti for nagaswaram sidestepping the then popular trend.

He was also endowed with the titles “Nagaswara Chakravarti” & “Isai Mannar” and also bestowed upon with the title “Sangita Ratnakara” by the Sankaracharya.

It is depressing to know that this great man, who during the freedom of India, enchanted everyone with his magical music on the midnight of the 15th of August 1947 also perished prematurely due to his only vice – alcoholism.

ID him.

Btw, the Nadhaswaram music for the famous song ‘Nalamthaanaa’ is NOT by TNR but by M P N Sethuraman and M P N Ponnuswamy. therefore the title here is, perhaps, misleading…

My sincere apologies for it. Will work on preventing such errors from repeating.
      Cheers 🙂
